Reminders and result emails

A last-call nudge before a ballot closes, "The verdict is in" the moment it does, and a way to get the result by email straight from a shared link.

A ballot should never close on you in silence. Limbo taps you on the shoulder before the deadline if you still haven't voted, and drops the verdict in your pocket — and your inbox — the moment it lands.

Who can do what: these are personal notifications, so every crew member controls their own — nothing here is organizer-gated. The trip owner sets the deadline these reminders count down to; see Organizer powers.

Last call before the deadline

If a ballot is winding down and you still haven't voted, Limbo sends a last-call reminder — the notification row is "Voting deadline approaching," "A reminder before a ballot closes if you haven't voted." It arrives as a push and in your in-app inbox, and tapping it drops you straight on the trip's voting dashboard so you can weigh in before the window shuts.

A couple of things worth knowing about when a ballot actually closes:

  • Sealed ballots never end early. A sealed ballot only resolves when everyone has voted or the deadline passes — hitting the approval threshold early doesn't quietly shut it behind your back. See Sealed and anonymous ballots.
  • The nudge fires before the deadline, not after. So a deadline-driven close never catches you off guard — you get the heads-up while there's still time to vote.

Note

The last-call reminder only reaches you if you haven't voted yet. Cast your ballot early and Limbo won't chase you.

Because it's an act-now nudge, this reminder is push and in-app only — it's never sent by email. Same goes for "New proposal to vote on," the alert when a fresh ballot opens.

The verdict is in

When a ballot resolves, the "Decision reached" notification goes out — "When a ballot resolves and the result is revealed." This is the one voting notification that reaches you three ways: push, in-app, and email.

  • Push and in-app land the moment the ballot closes. Tapping either opens the reveal on the trip's voting dashboard — the verdict stamp, the final tally, and who voted for what (unless the ballot was anonymous). The full anatomy is in The reveal.
  • The email — its subject line reads "Decision reached" followed by the plan's name — sums up the outcome, so you get the result even on a day you never open the app.

Email me the result

Not everyone in the group has the app — and they don't need it to see how a vote went. When a crew member opens their personal weigh-in link in a browser while the ballot is still open, there's an Email me the result option: drop in an email address and Limbo sends "The verdict is in" the moment the ballot closes — no download, no account.

Tip

It's the friction-free way to keep the one crew member who "never checks the app" in the loop — they get the verdict by email like everyone else.

Turn these on or off

All three voting alerts live under Settings → Notification Settings, in the Voting section:

RowPushEmailIn-app
New proposal to vote on
Voting deadline approaching
Decision reached

The two act-now rows can't be emailed — that toggle is greyed out on purpose, because a reminder you have to act on belongs on your phone, not buried in your inbox. Only Decision reached offers Email, and it's on by default.

Don't forget the two master switches at the top: turning Push notifications or Email notifications off silences that whole channel, whatever the per-row toggles say. The full walkthrough — the bell, the inbox, and the matrix — is in Notifications.

Note

Turn the push and email channels off and you still won't lose a result: the in-app inbox and the bell badge keep catching the verdict — unless you also switch off the Decision reached row's In-app toggle. Leave that on and the result is waiting the next time you open Limbo.
