Split costs
Turn on cost splitting in the crew sheet, choose equal or custom percentages, and override the split per item.
Cost splitting tells Limbo how the trip's expenses divide across the crew. Once it's on, the Budget tab shows what the trip costs you versus everyone else, item by item and in total.
Who can do what: the split lives on the trip form, so anyone who can edit the trip can change it — organizers always can, and the trip owner can grant edit access to other crew members. organizer Children on the trip are never included in a split.
Turn on cost splitting
- 1Open the trip and edit it (or set this up while creating it).
- 2Tap the Participants row to open the crew sheet.
- 3Scroll to Cost splitting and flip Split costs among the crew on.
- 4Pick Equal or Custom.
- 5Tap the check in the top corner to close the sheet, then save the trip.

Equal vs custom
Equal divides everything evenly — the sheet shows you the per-person percentage ("Everyone pays 33.3%") and recalculates automatically whenever the crew changes. Nothing to maintain.
Custom opens the split editor: a percentage field for each adult on the trip, with a live pill that tells you where you stand:
- "Remaining: 15%" (red) — you haven't allocated everything yet.
- "Over by 5%" (red) — you've allocated too much.
- "✓ Adds up to 100%" (green) — you're balanced.
Two shortcuts handle the math for you: Distribute remaining evenly spreads whatever's left across everyone, and Reset to equal split starts over. Tiny rounding leftovers are absorbed into the first row so the total always lands on exactly 100%.

Heads up
A custom split must add up to 100% before you can close the sheet — the check button stays greyed out until the pill turns green.
When the crew changes
- Someone leaves — their share is redistributed evenly among everyone left. If someone holding 20% leaves a four-person split, the remaining three get about 6.7% each, and the total is nudged back to exactly 100%.
- Someone joins — on an equal split, percentages just recalculate. On a custom split, the newcomer starts at 0% — open the crew sheet and give them a share (the Remaining pill will remind you if things no longer balance).
Override the split on a single item
Some costs shouldn't follow the trip-wide rule — maybe one couple has the bigger room, or one expense is yours alone. When splitting is on and a plan has a cost, its form grows a Cost split section:
- 1Edit the plan and scroll to Cost split.
- 2Flip Custom split for this item on.
- 3Choose Equal, Custom (with its own percentages), or Excluded — the item won't be split among companions.
- 4Save the plan.

Items without an override show "Using trip default" so you always know which rule applies.
Where you see the result
On the Budget tab, splitting unlocks the per-person summary cards — You and Crew — and the Cost per person sheet with everyone's share. Expanding a budget row shows exactly how that item divides, like "You 50% ($120) · Alex 25% ($60) · Sam 25% ($60)".
